This practice has a special interest in children's foot
problems. Some problems commonly seen are knocked or bowing knees,
pigeon toeing, flat feet, knee problems, or in fact any unusual gait. A
full assessment is performed using video, computer and treadmill technology to
identify the source of the problem.
Most children's foot problems can be satisfactorily resolved via the
use of a number of different modalities including:
- Joint mobilisation
- Orthotics
- Stretching and strengthening exercises
- Myotherapy / corrective exercise.
As children become more active in sport we have witnessed a dramatic
increase in sports related injuries such as: Achilles Tendonitis,
Osgood Schlatters disease etc..
To complete the assessment we also offer a footwear advisory service
where we advise parents on the most suitable footwear for their child.
We will also check fitting of existing footwear worn by your child. If
you are concerned by the way your child runs or walks phone the
practice for a gait analysis now!
Early diagnosis and treatment is vital to obtaining a successful
result.
The saddest words we hear are "I wish I had brought my child for
treatment much earlier".
SOCK WARNING!
Be careful when purchasing embroidered childrens socks. They may look
cute, but they can, in some circumstances, be dangerous. Turn an
embroidered sock inside out. If there are long, loose nylon threads
from the embroidery, BE CAREFUL. Little toes have been known to have
been caught up in the strong nylon threads and "strangled" sometimes
with disastrous results. It goes without saying that natural fibres are
best for feet.
