Some toenails tend to grow inwards and dig in towards the flesh. This may lead to infection and redness around the nail. Pain is often associated with ingrown toenails. Treatment is fast and effective and relief is obtained immediately following treatment. Generally a small piece of nail is removed and the area is dressed. With chronic ingrown or impacted nails we can permanently remove a section of nail and sterilise the nail area responsible for nail growth. This ensures the offending section of nail does not regrow. The procedure is performed painlessly by using a local anaesthetic. This is a minor "walk in walk out" procedure.

This causes the nail to take on a discoloured mottled appearance. In later stages the nail may become flaky and brittle. Oral medication can be prescribed, however this will depend on your general health as the medication can have side effects. Treatment is important to prevent the problem spreading to other nails. We can reduce and clean the nail plus prescribe a special anti-fungal nail paint that is easily applied and has no known side effects.
